Bonnke, Cerullo, Hayford, Hickey, Mainse and Synan to Receive Global Lifetime Impact Awards at Empowered21 Global Congress

11046749_10153170160164085_7900053237341928645_nEmpowered21 will give the first Lifetime Global Impact Awards at the upcoming Global Congress to be held May 20-25, 2015. These awards will honor Christian men and women who have made a significant impact on the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. Honorees include Reinhard Bonnke, Morris Cerullo, Jack Hayford, Marilyn Hickey, David Mainse and Vinson Synan.

“The Bible instructs us to ‘give honor to whom honor is due.’ It is with great joy that we present awards to these forefathers of the Spirit-empowered movement,” said William M. Wilson, president and global co-chair of Empowered21. “The collective ministries of these giants of the faith have transformed the lives of millions of people. We are deeply thankful for their legacies and invite all of their friends from around the world to join us in Jerusalem to celebrate their contribution to God’s work.”
Bonnke is principally known for his great gospel crusades throughout the continent of Africa. Attendance at these meetings has drawn as many as 1.6 million people to a single meeting.

Bonnke is the founder of the international ministry Christ for All Nations, which currently has offices in the United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Nigeria, South Africa, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. Since the start of the new millennium, through a host of major events in Africa and other parts of the world, the ministry has recorded 55 million documented decisions for Jesus Christ.

God has used Cerullo to reach multitudes of people around the world in over half a century of ministry. He has hosted miracle crusades, in which the lame walked, the blind saw, the deaf heard, and the Gospel was preached to more than 500,000 people in one service.

Cerullo hosts a daily television program titled “Victory Today.” He has also written more than 80 books, which have been distributed to millions, including spiritual classics such as: “Proof Producers,” “Two Men From Eden,” “The New Anointing,” “You Can Know How To Defeat Satan,” “Son, Build Me an Army,” “Journey into the Promised Land: Daily Devotions for the New Millennium,” “God’s Victorious Army Bible,” “Spiritual Warfare Financial Bible,” “Healing Bible,” “The Prophecy Bible” and “Financial Classic.”

Hayford serves as chancellor of The Kings University (formerly The King’s College and Seminary) in Los Angeles and Dallas, which he founded in 1997. From 2004 to 2009, he also served as president of The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He is probably best known as the founding pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California, where he served as senior pastor for more than three decades.

A prolific and best-selling writer, Hayford is the author (or co-author) of more than 50 books and has composed 500 hymns and choruses, including the internationally known and widely recorded “Majesty.” He is an acknowledged “bridge-builder,” helping to forge healthy bonds among all segments of the body of Christ.

At the age of 42, Hickey responded to God’s call on her life to “cover the earth with His Word” (Isaiah 11:9). The Lord has continually opened doors of opportunity for Hickey in nearly 130 countries. This includes private meetings and prayer with high-ranking Muslim and Hindu government officials. Her lectures on healing and the Bible have broken records for the largest public meeting ever held in Egypt and Pakistan.

Hickey works with her daughter, Sarah Bowling, to bring people into relationship with Jesus Christ. Year after year, they cross unfriendly borders with Bibles, teaching materials and books translated into native languages, often at great personal risk, carrying the gospel into scores of nations including Pakistan, Italy, Morocco, Ethiopia, Sudan, Russia, Panama, Australia, China, Germany, India, The United Kingdom, Vietnam and dozens more.

Mainse is the founder of Crossroads Television, which has grown into an international ministry with a 143,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art television production facility called “The Crossroads Centre” in Burlington, Ontario. He also created a studio at “100 Huntley Street” in downtown Toronto and launched an interview/talk show under the same name.

“100 Huntley Street” has featured more than 16,000 guests such as Billy Graham, Charlton Heston and scores of Canadians and Americans sharing their stories and music. It has a weekly audience averaging 1 million Canadian viewers. There are only two other programs in Canada that have sustained such viewership among the public – Hockey Night In Canada and CFL Football.

Synan serves as dean emeritus and visiting professor of Church History at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he previously served as dean of the School of Divinity. An historian and author within the Pentecostal movement, Synan has published many articles and 19 books on Pentecostal and Charismatic themes.

Synan was a co-founder and organizer in the birth of the Society for Pentecostal Studies, where he was elected as the first general secretary. He also served as the general secretary for the Pentecostal Holiness Church while also teaching at Oklahoma City Southwestern College, where he served as the acting president in 1980. He was elected as assistant general superintendent of his denomination, then served as the director of evangelism. He currently serves on the Empowered21 Global Council and on the Oral Roberts University Board of Trustees.

At a press conference on Monday, October 13, in Jerusalem, Empowered21 President and Global Co-Chair Billy Wilson joined with prominent leaders of major Jewish and Christian global organizations to sign a historic joint initiative calling on world leaders to take firm action to halt the brutal persecution of Christians in the Middle East.

The letter was sent to 95 democratic countries and co-signed by Dr. William M. Wilson, president and co-chairman of the Empowered21 Global Council and president of Oral Roberts University (www.oru.edu); International Christian Embassy Jerusalem executive director Dr. Jürgen Bühler; and World Jewish Congress president Ronald S. Lauder. The joint initiative was unveiled at the Feast of Tabernacles celebration sponsored by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem.

“This letter gives an important voice to Christians who are being persecuted and even killed for their faith around the world, especially in the Middle East,” said Dr. Wilson of ORU and Empowered21. “In this age of technology, we have a greater awareness of these types of alarming oppressions and a greater responsibility to protect Christian communities. Most Christ followers in these difficult situations will not respond with violence and therefore need global governmental authorities to stand with them against these injustices.”

Wilson continued, “I was humbled that Mr. Lauder, whose people have persevered through some of the greatest persecution in the world’s history, joined to sign this historic letter. To see this prominent Jewish leader stand with Christians in this moment should speak volumes to these world leaders.”

According to The Voice of the Martyrs, there are more Christian Martyrs today than there were in 100 AD-in the days of the Roman Empire. Of the top 10 countries of the worst Christian persecution listed by Open Doors, eight are in the Middle East.

The rise of ISIS, or the Islamic State (IS), has continued to raise concern for the safety of Christians in the Middle East. This information from World Watch Monitor shows some example of the threat:

“Where Islamic State has gained power, their reign of terror is driving all Christians and other minorities out. Before Islamic State began its rampage, about 3,000 Christians had been living in Mosul, down from 35,000 after the 2003 war. Now, there are virtually no Christians left. The mainly Christian town of Qarakosh has been abandoned as well, along with other villages; the last Christians have left the northern town of Bartella. Tens of thousands of Christians have become internally displaced, fleeing to the Kurdish region, with cities like Erbil and Dohuk taking in thousands of them.”

Also on hand to speak at the press conference was Canon Andrew White, known as the ‘Vicar of Baghdad,’ an Anglican cleric who has become one of the leading voices of the persecuted Christians of Iraq.

“The current plight of Middle East Christians is heart-breaking and even western churches have to do more to bring the suffering of our fellow believers to the forefront worldwide,” said Dr. Bühler. “But to have a prominent global Jewish leader lend his voice to this moral call for protecting the region’s persecuted Christians is unprecedented in modern times. We welcome all others of goodwill who will take a stand now for these vulnerable ancient Christian communities.”

“Just as Christians defend Jews against anti-Semitism, just as Christians support Israel, we Jews have an obligation to speak out against the growing persecution of Christians in many parts of the world,” Lauder said in explaining his participation as head of the World Jewish Congress.

“Islamist extremists have launched a full-fledged assault on our Western values, on our civilization, and Jews and Christians must work hand in hand to defeat this threat. For too long, the world has remained silent in the face of this evil. We must act before it is too late,” Lauder added.

There are more than 600 million Spirit empowered Christians around the world. Empowered21 aims to help shape the future of the global Spirit-empowered movement throughout the world by focusing on crucial issues facing the movement and connecting generations for intergenerational blessing and impartation. Their vision is that every person on Earth would have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit by Pentecost 2033. Dr Billy Wilson Jerusalem Press ConferenceEmpowered21 will bring Christians together to contemplate the critical issues facing the Spirit-empowered movement at the upcoming Global Congress to be held May 20-25, 2015 in Jerusalem. This Congress is a call to all believers from around the world to celebrate Pentecost in the land of Pentecost. The event is expected to bring thousands of Christians to the region for a time of teaching, praise and prayer. The People, The Land, and The Future of Israel

Dr. Mitch Glaser, president of Chosen People is available for interviews

5D16A452-1967-4F28-820D-F16739344E0EMitch Glaser, Ph.D., president of Chosen People Ministries (CPM), doesn’t believe the Holy Land conflict will be solved by political theorists or a panel of experts. The cultural differences and even spiritual pain will take deep, personal healing to resolve. Though the current ceasefire had looked hopeful for producing mutually respectful dialogue, he says, we may have run into another hurtle.

Israel’s right to land in the Middle East has always been an inflammatory topic, and Christians, who feel a unique connection with the area, are divided over how to handle the people and the politics. Dr. Glaser believes contemporary Christians are growing more sympathetic to the people in and around Israel, both Jews and Palestinians, in their hope to promote the healing needed to bring peace.

CPM reaches out to all people. They don’t oppose Muslims or Palestinians as people, knowing, as Dr. Glaser says, “the Israeli mother and the Palestinian mother both want their children to be safe.”

<5D16A452-1967-4F28-820D-F16739344E0E.png>In a new book, The People, the Land and the Future of Israel: A Biblical Theology of Israel and the Jewish People, Dr. Glaser collaborates with scholars to present “important historical, theological, and contemporary issues related to Israel and the Jewish people from numerous angles.” says Glaser.

Dr. Glaser was born into an Orthodox Jewish home in New York City. He has a Ph. D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, has taught at many U.S. universities, and has traveled to Jewish communities around the world. After two of his closest Jewish friends became believers in Jesus, Dr. Glaser was introduced to the idea that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah.

He is co-recipient of Christianity Today magazine’s 2009 Award of Merit in the Apologetics/Evangelism category for the book To The Jew First: The Case for Jewish Evangelism in Scripture and History, which was co-edited with Darrell Bock. Dr. Glaser and Dr. Bock also co-edited The Gospel According to Isaiah 53, published by Kregel Press.

CPM has been working among Jewish people around the world since 1894. Dr. Glaser has served as president since 1997. Among their many initiatives, ministry workers in Israel are working with a generation about to be lost, Russian-born Holocaust survivors. In another ten years, they will be gone, carrying a burden no one should have to bear.

“Even if you don’t believe in the authority of the Bible,” he states, “this book will help readers understand historically and why evangelical Christians are motivated to support Israel.”

Talking Points:

·       How to pray for the peace of Israel
·       How Christians can support the nation of Israel
·       The future of Israel
·       Is the modern state of Israel the fulfillment of biblical prophecy?
·       Why the Christian community is divided on the topic of Israel
·       Why Israel is a “political football”
·       Remaining Holocaust survivors in areas near Gaza

·       The next generation of Christians and their attitude towards Israel

5 Ways to Pray for the Peace of Israel

Photo by Amy Morrow, courtesy of Bill Oechsler

The Psalmist encourages us to pray for Israel, but believers may not fully appreciate the reasons why God instructs us to pray specifically for Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). Yet, our motivation to pray for the peace of Jerusalem is embedded in the very words of the Psalmist themselves:

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.”

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is a prayer for physical and spiritual peace—which only comes through the Prince of Peace. Praying for peace reminds us that human beings are incapable of creating peace for themselves and that only God can bring peace to a broken world this side of heaven (Phil 4:6-7) and in the world to come (Isa 2:2-4; 11:6-9).

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is, in reality, praying for Jesus to return, as peace will only come to the world when He takes His rightful throne in Jerusalem and reigns forever (Matt 23:37ff; Rev. 11:15). Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is a way of asking God to implant His peace in the hearts of both Jews and Gentiles by personally accepting the Prince of Peace as Lord of their lives.

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem also brings blessings to those who pray, especially as God views our prayers as blessing the Jewish people (Gen 12:3). God still has plans for the chosen people. As Paul reminds us, “they are loved on account of the patriarchs” (Rom. 11:28-29).

How should we pray for the peace of Jerusalem?

The following might give you some ideas about how to pray for the peace of Jerusalem more effectively:

1. Pray for Jewish Israeli and Palestinian leaders to both negotiate a temporary, politically-based peace and to also find peace in their hearts through accepting Jesus. These are the people we should pray for at this time: Palestinian leaders Mahmoud Abbas (Fatah) and Khaled Meshaal (Hamas); as well our leaders in the U.S., President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry.

We can pray that God guides these leaders to make decisions that bring peace instead of war and suffering for their citizens.

2. Pray for the work of God’s people in bringing the message of the gospel to the almost 200,000 Holocaust survivors living in Israel. By God’s grace, Chosen People Ministries has been able to enjoy a growing ministry among these precious people.

During the recent conflict with Hamas our staff was able to provide care for many of these survivors, both materially and spiritually. One of them describes the peace of heart he has now experienced through receiving Jesus as Messiah and Lord:

Something happened in my life when I went to Poland on a Chosen People Ministries Israel trip for Holocaust survivors. I received a Bible, which I read day and night while we were in Poland. Since then, I have dedicated myself to reading Scripture and studying. I was baptized and know fully that Jesus the Jewish Messiah has died and conquered death for me!”

Your prayers can make a difference serving this treasured community, which may die out within a decade.

3. Pray for the quiet reconciliation efforts of Jewish and Arab believers in Israel seeking to encourage one another by developing deeper relationships between the Jewish and Palestinian Church. There are over 140 congregations in Israel, ranging from small house fellowships to established places of worship. Pray that the work of the Prince of Peace will grow among Jewish Israelis and Palestinians and that they are enabled to provide a powerful witness of Messiah’s reconciliation among their neighbors.

4. Pray for God to help the church in the United States to be better informed about what is happening in Israel and to find ways to glean information for continued prayer outside of the slanted approach of the media.

5. Praying for the peace of Jerusalem reminds us of our blessed hope! Even though peace is elusive today, it is still our prophetic destiny. As Isaiah the prophet writes, “He will judge between the nations, and will render decisions for many peoples; and they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war” (Is 2:4).

The Shalom we are seeking is now available for all people, as this peace transcends the terror of ISIL, the war with Hamas and whatever conflict or suffering this world thrusts upon us. Jesus said,

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

His peace is all we need today to keep our hearts from being consumed with fear. His peace is our destiny, as one day the Prince of Peace will arrive from heaven and establish His throne in Jerusalem (Isa 2, 9:6-7).

Praying for Israel and the Jewish people reminds us of the Shalom the Lord has planned for all humanity. There is a beautiful Jewish prayer that sheds new light on Psalm 122:6.

May He who makes peace in the heavens make peace descend upon us and all Israel, and let us say, Amen!
